Scotland 2007

We decided to spend Christmas up in Scotland with the remnants of my family and then New Year in the Lake District on the way home just to break the journey. Well Scotland definitely had it's fair share of snow and the Lakedistrict wasn't far behind.

The temperature here was -12C and we had a devil of a job keeping the screen free from dirt as the screenwash kept on freezing. Ultimately we had to use pure screenwash which generally worked. An attempt at an artistic photo.

The view from the top of the Wrynose pass and boy was it cold. The road was very icy in places and gave us some white knuckle moments as we slithered around.
I attempted the Hardnott Pass but after the first corner the road was just a sheet of ice. The wheels were still driving forward but the vehicle was sliding back down the hill, it was terrifying. After that little experience I decided to take the long way round to Eskdale.

The morning after the night before. The campsite was lovely with heated showers etc. but the outside water was frozen.

We decided to take a stroll around the area before the New Year celebrations so we could appreciate them as the following day we may not be able to.

An old barn on the way.

Another artistic attempt. The views from the path were superb with crystal clear skies but rather chilly.

She looks a bit woolly there!!!! There's a little tearoom in the old mill which provided an enjoyable end to the walk.

There was a pub about 10 minutes walk from the campsite that held a special New Year' Eve's party. Free food, champagne at midnight and a fireworks display to boot. Needless to say we spent a happy few hours there before we wound our weary way back to the camper. Boy were we thankful for the diesel heater as it hit -15C that night and all our onboard water froze.

We spent a restful New Year's day then back down south to thaw the water system out.
