Slovenia

At last a place I have always wanted to visit after reading other peoples' travels in this lovely country, we arrived on Monday 30th July..

After having purchased a Vignette for 15 Euro off we set to Lake Bled.

The Church of the Assumption sitting on Bled Island. You can hire a rowing boat and get yourself out to the island or use the services of the local gondolas. In the background the Castle Bled originally an eleventh century fortification but it's present appearance dates from the seventeenth century.

Another view of the castle. Camping Sobec where we stayed for 2 nights.Handy restaurant and bar and very good motorhome facilities. Apparently it's the largest campsite in Slovenia, it was good but about 6 kms out of Bled.

We headed off towards Lake Bohinj which as you will see is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately the photos don't really do it justice.

Looking up towards the outward bound centre half way along the lake. . Another view of the far end of the lake. There was a National Park campsite at the end of the lake but it was well and truly full but in a marvelous position.

Looking at the lake from beneath an old bridge.

.

Where did all the people go there's only shoes left . . . . . . . . maybe a Loch Bohinj monster!!!

.

The guardian of the lake.

Leaving Bohinj behind we headed for the Vintgar Gorge, an interesting piece of driving to get there!!

This was discovered by the local mayor and his cartographer colleague in 1891 so they set up a construction company to build a walkway along the gorge.

It's a lovely 1600mt walk along the gorge and back. The colours of the water are fantastic.

Some of the little bridges are fairly narrow.

There were trout swimming in the deep, slower flowing parts.

How many faces can you see in the rock formation on the right of the picture??

Spent a hour or so in Ljubliana having a drive around and decided to return as the country was really pretty and the Triglav National Park very rugged. The city had many bridges crossing the river, a castle and some interesting architecture. Somewhere worth exploring when there is more time.

Italy here we come!!
